Taking small steps.

Last week we did a lot of small things.
We started with installing the seat rails.
Then we made the seat risers so the seat is mounted 4 cm higher.
And we prepared everything for installing the door seals.
The next day we installed the door seals witch took most of our time.
And then we installed the seat on the risers.
The next day was started with installing the trim around the seats.
And we fabricated a bracket for the carburetor to install the choke and throttle cable. The air cleaner had to come of for this and we noticed that the bracket holding the air cleaner was somewhat fragile. So we mad a new one combined with a riser to hold it on the carb with descend screws.
We installed the seats that came with the car to check the height.
And then we started with repainting the steering wheel .
The paint that was on it remained soft. With some washing thinner the paint was easily removed.
So then we could prime it.
After the primer was cured we painted on the lacquer.
This day we also installed the inside windshield trim and the wiper arms and blades are installed.
The next day I found a solution for the turn signals. A new relay was installed and a diode bridge prevents that the relay keeps constantly working.
We first soldered some wires to the diode bridge and then installed it between the wires of the front turn signals and the indicator light on the turn signal selector.
We also had to repaint the steering wheel. Apparently I forgot to paint a spot.
The next day I installed the steering wheel in the car.
And then I installed the traverse rails in the truck bed.
And so we come with today. The Sun shield was taken of the car and i started to alter the brackets for them. The original mounting plates are cut of and new ones were made and tacked in place.
All that's left is to alter the other side and finish them.
But that will be for tomorrow.

What was done this week?

This week I did not do any daily updates. At first I was forgotten to take pictures and the progress was rather slow.
We started with the electrics. All connections under the dash are made.
The connector on the front inner fenders for the headlights was made and connected.
 The Front window was installed.
The clocks were installed in the dashboard and all the wire are cleaned up and tucked away under the dash
A Dummy regulator was made to make the connector for the alternator in a proper way.
We started with the running boards the layout was drawn and the bead rolling was started.
Once the bead rolling was done we had to cut the pieces apart and do some more rolling and bending and we started tacking the pieces back together.
Ones all the electric works were done we started the engine to see if everything looks ok and to see if there were no leaks. After the engine was hot enough there were.
The oil filter was leaking oil  the pot is welded to a brackets and some of the welds had been broken. So we took it apart and made new welds. And now it's ok.
We then installed the head lights and looked if they worked. We noticed that the high and low beam selector switch was not working properly.
Then the hood was in stalled on the car.
And we also installed the sunvisor. And that is giving us trouble.

 We installed the hood ornament.
We also tried the horn but that did not work. After some inspection we noticed that the horn relay was 6Volts and wasn't working anymore. So I took it apart.
Cut the inners of the base plate.
Took a relay I had laying around a Korean 12 volt that was small enough to fit in the shell.
Soldered some wires to the connectors and the base plate and put everything back together and mounted it in the car. The horn is now working.
The headlight was switch was also taken out of the car for closer inspection. It also was taken apart and repaired and is working again.
And then the sunvisor. I had taken it apart again today with some help. Made some minor modifications and fitted again on the car. But the doors still keep binding the base plate. The total fit of the visor is not what it should be. It is hitting the roof and already some paint is chipped.
I tried to alter the location of the door  to give it more clearance at the top where it binds but then I get into problems at the bottom rear of the door. And the gap will not be even.
So for now I quit and take some time to think about a solution for this problem.

Installation of the front

Today we started mounting of the grill in the car. Then the bumper was installed. Installing these components took us almost a day's work.
Next we installed some more wire looms in the car and started making connections. The hoses for the heater also went in.
After making some more connections ( electrical) . I started mounting the horn in place. But unfortunately  it does not fit. The holes are to close together compared to the holes in the fender and there is no clearance with the oil filter and the brace rod. After some thinking things trough i found a solution. I made a new bracket and now the horn is right in between the parts that were in the way.
And that was it for today.

Installing the windows.

Today we started with the installation of the windows in the car.
We started with the rear corner windows and worked our way to the back window. That all went good and we started with the windshield. By opening the bag of the seal we noticed that is was a rubber for a standard installation. We ordered a delux version but something went wrong with the delivery. So the front windshield could not be installed.
So then we started with the installation of the front wings.
As soon that we got the inner fenders in place we were able to install the fenders and the front wind deflector.
We also had some time to install the gas filler neck on the car.
And that is were we ended the day.
Tomorrow we will continue with the rest.

More electrics

The last 2 days we did some more work on the car.
Yesterday it was to late to give an update so I make it now.
The trim around the door windows are installed in place and that make the door almost finished Only the door cards need to go in but that will be for the upholstery guy.
We also put the wire loom in the car together with more components.
And the taillights were installed. They still have to be connected to the wire loom.
Today we installed the glove box the heater and some more components and we laid some wires to hook everything to the wire loom.
The holes at the location of the heater were all covered with rubber grommets That will be done to all the holes that are not used.
And at last we installed the radio with speakers and cover.
All the wires will be hooked up to an additional fuse box which will be installed under the dashboard (at a later date).

First electric component

We started early working on the car.
One Co-worker was working on the pedals and the starter switch to perfect the fit in the car.
An other  Co-worker was  putting in the cabin sealing around the doors, he also helped me to put on the rear fenders on the car.
We also attached the Identification card back in the car. Around the door sil you can see the black striped that runs vertically near it. That is part of the cabin sealer. However when closing the door there is still a gap around the door trough which air and driving noise can enter in the cabin.
We also installed the brackets that hold the spare wheel on its place.
And then the gas tank was installed in its place. That was the end of the day for my Co-workers. And then I installed the first electric component on the car. The Windshield wiper motor
And then the connecting rods are installed.
So that's it for today.

Finishing the doors.

A lot of work has gotten into the project today.
Today we installed the windows in the doors.
And the door latch and catch and the door handle.
Beside the doors there went a lot of work connecting the gas and other pedals to the floor.
And tomorrow we will continue the job.
